How it Works
Sylvan Online offers live, Web-based tutoring through its easy-to-use, proprietary online classroom. Sylvan Online is unique because it provides "real conversations in real time" over the Internet, using special voice technology that allows student and teacher to have a two-way audio dialogue using a special headset connected to a home PC - much like using a telephone. The student and teacher also write questions and answers to each other in real time, which are displayed on both the student's and teacher's computer screens along with the Sylvan Online-designed reading or math lessons. Best of all, kids find it fun! Children respond to our online tutoring methods and become more confident and excited with each lesson. Our powerful combination of unique technology and exceptional teachers takes the fear out of learning.

What You Need
Sylvan Online technology is easy to install and use on your existing computer! All you need is:

A PC (Pentium II or more recent) using Windows 98 (or more recent).
An Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as AOL or Earthlink.
A 56K modem or faster.

What We Send You
Getting started with Sylvan Online is easy. When you sign up, a starter kit is mailed out that includes the following:

A digital writing pad and digital pencil that allow students and teachers to communicate using their own handwriting on the same lesson displayed on both the teacher's and the student's monitors. Students do not need to know how to type in order to excel in our programs.
A hands-free headset that enables your child to speak to his or her Sylvan Online teacher in real-time over the Internet, much like a telephone. This leaves your child's hands free to use the digital pencil and keyboard. And, because this conversation takes place over the Internet, you don't need a second phone line.
A reference guide and CD-ROM that quickly and easily provides the technical answers you need, and guides you through the installation process.

FREE Technical Support from Sylvan Online's knowledgeable and friendly tech support team is available Monday through Saturday to help guide you through installation of the starter kit and provide support throughout your child's program.
