The Sylvan Online methodology works because it diagnoses the root of the problem, develops and follows through on a plan to fix those areas, and shows measurable results.

How do we ensure the best possible program for your child's specific needs?
First, we use the results of your child's Online Skills Assessment. This assessment works like an academic X-Ray, shedding light on your child's areas of strength and weakness. We then personalize a lesson plan based on these results and input from you, the parent, so that your child will spend time learning the specific skills he needs to succeed.

Mastery Learning
After your child is enrolled in a Sylvan Online program, our certified teachers teach to his personalized lesson plan, using a method known as Mastery Learning. This means that after the teacher teaches a skill to your child and answers any questions, your child demonstrates he has "mastered" that skill by using it 3 to 5 times with high accuracy. Once your child shows this kind of proficiency, he progresses to the next skill. In addition, he is periodically re-tested on mastered skills to ensure retention.

Individualized Attention
A Sylvan Online program offers your child private, individualized attention from certified teachers who motivate and support him during each session. For many students who aren't comfortable in the classroom, Sylvan Online can be an ideal learning environment. In his private classroom at Sylvan Online, your child is free from the distractions of other students. He's able to learn at the right pace for him. And in our environment, he may feel more comfortable to ask any question he wants. In addition, teachers offer praise for good work – a motivational boost that students desperately need, but may not receive in a large classroom.

Parents' Role in a Successful Sylvan Online Program
Parents are a critical part of the Sylvan Online process. As a Sylvan Online parent, you will have continuous support from your Sylvan Online Academic Director, a highly trained, caring professional who is available to answer any questions you have throughout your child's program. Your Academic Director will also hold regularly scheduled parent conferences with you, to update you on your child's progress and recap the skills that will be taught in upcoming sessions. For added convenience, we also post your child's progress report on a secure, personalized parent web page that you can access 24 hours a day.
